A client calls. They have received a notice under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act. They read out the dates, the cheque amount, what the bank said. They will courier the papers tomorrow, but they want to know today whether there is a defence worth raising.

You have the facts. You do not have the file.

Until now, Legal Opinion could not help you. It required an uploaded document before the Generate button would do anything, so a matter you could describe perfectly well in three paragraphs was simply out of reach.

Legal Opinion now accepts a written description of the matter, with or without documents attached.

Three ways to use it

Attach documents and let the AI work from them, as before. Or type out the facts and get an opinion on those alone. Or do both, which is often closest to how a matter actually arrives: two documents in hand, plus everything the client told you over the phone that is not written down anywhere.

The only combination that will not run is an empty form.

What changes on screen

When no document is attached, the case details field becomes the required one and says so. The submit button tells you what is missing rather than sitting there greyed out with no explanation.

Behind that, the AI is given a different instruction depending on what you provided. With no file, it is told that your description is the complete factual record and that it must not refer to documents or invent facts to fill gaps. Without that instruction it would reach for a document that does not exist and describe its contents, which is worse than useless in an opinion.

Why this was worth fixing

The tool had its priorities inverted. The file was mandatory and the facts were optional, when for most preliminary advice it is the other way round. A lawyer usually knows the facts before the paperwork lands.

Prose only opinions also no longer produce a blank heading or an empty download filename, both of which used to appear when the tool expected a document name it never had.
